Blastback Film Ride

The North Island of New Zealand

Mt. Ruapehu with Lake Teranaki in the distance.

The frames below are from the moving platform film ride, "Blastback" that is currently installed at the museum of New Zealand in Wellington. The 3D animation for the five minute ride was completed at Conja during 1997. Time Space Texture created animation for three scenes in which landscapes were required using Alias Power Animator and a highly modified version of the terraformer file. No geometry, cameras, lights or shaders were as original by the end. Many expressions were altered as well.

The South Island of New Zealand.

This shot is a still frame from the scene where the viewer flies over the South Island as the mountains grow. Eight dummy displacement maps were used in the wire file. A sed script that made nine copies of the sdl and then exchanged two of the dummy displacement map file names in each of the nine sdl copies for large maps was written. The scene was then rendered using these eight different sdl's that covered different frame ranges of the animation. This saved on memory usage considerably.
